To ensure security updates are effectively applied to Ithaca College computers, changes are needed in our Windows Update settings. Starting December 5th, IC Windows desktops and laptops will automatically download and install available Microsoft updates, and will restart outside of “active hours” when doing so is needed for updates to take effect.
Active hours are set by default to between 7 AM and 7 PM. Instructions for setting active hours to a different period are available in our knowledge base. The new Windows Update settings have already been configured on all Windows computers in the Division of Finance and Administration, with no issues being reported. For rare workstations or laptops that need special treatment, please reach out to the IT Service Desk.
