The Honors Program is pleased to announce an opening for the Director of the Ithaca College Honors Program. The appointment is anticipated to begin June 1, 2020 and last until May 31, 2024, and we welcome applications for this collaborative leadership opportunity.

The program offers curricular and co-curricular opportunities to students enrolled as members of the Ithaca College Honors Program, fostering a collaborative and intellectually exciting community of faculty, staff, and students.

We seek a full-time, tenured faculty member at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor to serve as the Director of the Ithaca College Honors Program.

Responsibilities include chairing the Honors Steering Committee, recruiting faculty and developing course schedules, maintaining program records, managing the program budget, coordinating advising, coordinating Honors Ithaca Seminar faculty members, representing the program to internal and external audiences, orienting students to the program, liaising to the Student Advisory Committee, planning and coordinating curricular initiatives and co-curricular experiences, supervising the program’s administrative assistant, administering the recruitment and admission processes (in collaboration with the Assistant Director and the Office of Admissions), participating actively in the life of the program, and engaging in other duties as specified in the contract with the College.

This leadership role is an opportunity to develop a broad awareness of various offices on the campus, work directly with highly-motivated students, and collaborate with faculty, staff, student, and administrator stakeholders. An Assistant Director, who will be on-duty during the fall and spring of the first two years of appointment, will be a key collaborator, as well.

The ideal candidate will possess a demonstrated interest in intellectually vibrant learning experiences inside and outside the classroom; a commitment to inclusivity in practice; a history of working collaboratively with faculty and staff from across the College; excellent advising skills; and enthusiasm for the Honors Program. Previous leadership experience is preferred but not required. Preference will be given to members of the Honors faculty, but this opportunity is not limited to Honors faculty.

During the tenure of this Director, the School of Humanities and Sciences will also be developing a signature liberal arts program (or programs) that will build on some of the innovative practices of the current Honors Program. While the Director of the IC Honors Program will have no direct responsibility for the program that develops in the School of H&S, leadership from the two programs may choose to liaise as the H&S program develops.

The Director will receive six credits of reassigned time from teaching [or overload compensation] each fall and spring semester (12 credits per year, in total) for the duration of the appointment. This position includes some summer duties and thus is compensated with a summer stipend.

Interested individuals should send a letter of interest and current CV to the Associate Provost for Academic Programs, Jeane Copenhaver-Johnson, at jcopenhaverjohnson@ithaca.edu. Interested candidates will meet with representatives of the Honors Steering Committee and the Associate Provost for Academic Programs as part of the interview process. Applicants will also have the opportunity to meet with the current IC Honors Director and Project Coordinator to learn more about the program. To ensure full consideration, materials should be submitted no later than Monday, December 16, 2019, but materials will continue to be accepted until the position is filled.
