On Wednesday, December 11 The History Center will present the work of Ithaca College environmental history students. With news of anthropogenic environmental change in the news every day, the latest installment of this history project offers provocative insights into the historical relationship between people and the local environment.
Professor Smith's students are utilizing the The History Center’s collection for primary source material and a new group of students has been working in teams on topics ranging from the environmental history of the historic flood of 1935, the efforts to stop the construction of a nuclear power plant on Cayuga Lake in the late 1960s, and the environmental history of the 1903 typhoid epidemic.
Five groups will present a synopsis of their findings followed by a questions and answers on Wednesday, December 11 at 7 p.m. at The History Center, 110 N. Tioga St. on the Commons. Upon completion of their studies, the research will become part of The History Center’s collection. For more information please contact Michael Smith, 607-274-1290.
