Dr. Laslo Frazer gives a talk on the importance of fusion to solar cell technology

Red light has less energy than yellow light.  The picture shows a material which is capturing red light and releasing yellow light.  This is a spontaneous increase in energy.  Energy comes in countable pieces.  In this case, those pieces are photons and excitons.

We combine the pieces.  The process is called fusion.  The total amount of energy cannot spontaneously increase because energy is conserved.

Fusion relies on the fact that number is not conserved.  By reducing the number of pieces, we can create higher energy pieces.  I will present the importance of fusion to solar cell technology and some of my students' discoveries about fusion.
