The Ithaca College School of Business was once again named a Top Undergraduate Business School by “Poets & Quants for Undergrads,” a news outlet that covers business education. The school was listed as #61 in the nation in the 2020 ranking. Other top schools include the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and the Stern School of Business at New York University.

The “Poets & Quants” rankings are based on three equally weighted categories of data: admission criteria, alumni satisfaction and employment results. IC’s school of business ranked 45th in alumni satisfaction and 55th in graduate outcomes. (Find out more about their methodology.)

“Our mission statement focuses on our commitment to a student-centered business education, steeped in the liberal arts and experiential learning,” said Sean Reid, dean of the School of Business. “With our strong performance in the areas of alumni satisfaction and employment outcomes, we view this recognition as validation that our faculty and staff are accomplishing this mission. We take great pride in the success of our alumni and their commitment back to the School of Business and our students.”

The ranking comes on the heels of a momentous year for the School of Business that included the addition of high-tech facilities, a new MBA program and unparalleled experiential learning opportunities.

The Neeson Business Analytics Lab and Neeson Digital Marketing and Analytics Lab opened this fall, allowing students to gain valuable experience analyzing “big data” and use top-of-the-line analytics software previously unavailable to students and faculty. The John Neeson ’84 Endowed Software and Database Fund ensures that the software will stay up-to-date to equip students to enter the fast-moving, competitive field of data analytics.

The school also launched the innovative MBA in Entertainment and Media Management, with a robust experiential component that includes running a multimedia production company and working with local concert promoter DSP Shows, which staged a concert by Bob Dylan on campus this November. Students learned first-hand what it takes to put on a show of that scale, where more than 4,000 fans turned out to see the music legend perform.

Students in the School of Business also had a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience leading up to and during the 2019 Cortaca Jug football game, which was held at MetLife Stadium this fall. Students in the Sport Marketing and Sales class developed a marketing plan for the game, and sport management majors led and organized on-campus ticket sales for the historic matchup between Ithaca and SUNY Cortland, which drew a Division III-record 45,161 fans. On game day, business students ran an in-stadium Fan Fest alongside staffers from the stadium.

The School of Business is accredited by AACSB International—The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Considered the hallmark of excellence in business education, AACSB accreditation has been earned by less than five percent of the world’s business programs.

The school offers bachelor of science degrees in accounting and business administration (with concentrations in corporate accounting, finance, international business, management, sport management and marketing). At the graduate level, it offers an MBA degree in entertainment and media management and a master of science degree in accounting.
