As we approach winter break, the Office of Public Safety and Emergency Management, and the Office of Residential Life would like to remind you of some simple safety measures to secure your belongings during the break!
Residence Hall Safety Tips
- Don’t leave valuables in your residence hall room. When packing for the winter break, you must take your laptops, tablets, smartphones and other gadgets with you. Aside from bringing more expensive items home with you, it also pays to protect important documents such as IDs, school records, credit cards, and other documents that can be used to compromise your identity.
- Lock all doors (front, balcony and patio doors).
- Close and secure windows to restrict access to your room, and the building, as well as to prevent the sprinkler system from freezing.
- Keep blinds closed.
- Avoid leaving messages on your door advertising your absence.
Vehicle Safety Tips
- Lock all doors to your vehicle, and check twice!
- Don’t leave your windows rolled down, not even a crack.
- Don’t leave vital information in your vehicle such as registration and insurance cards as they contain personal home information.
- Don’t leave valuables in your vehicle, such as GPS or E-Z Pass.
- Park your vehicle in a well-lit area of campus.
Fire Safety Tips
1. Unplug all electronics and remove decorations such as strings of lights.
2. If you have greenery, please dispose of it prior to leaving campus.
Public Safety is always available and can be reached at any time including when the college is closed by calling 607-274-3333.
