As required by the New York State Fire Code, Ithaca College Environmental Health and Safety personnel will be conducting fire evacuation drills for all campus owned and occupied buildings over the course of the next few weeks. The fire code is very specific as to when drills are to be conducted, with a minimum of four drills for residential life buildings, and academic or business buildings must have three. These drills must be conducted at random times of the day when the building is in operation.
As is always the case, you are required to exit a building in a safe and expedited manner any time the fire alarm system is activated, and then gather at the building’s established meeting spot. EH&S will attempt to conduct the drills during reasonable weather, however given the State requirements and our current winter season, this may not always be possible.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask the EH&S staff conducting the drill. Working together we maintain fire code compliance while demonstrating a commitment of providing a safe environment for our students, staff and faculty.
Thank you
