Deadline for expressions of interest is January 29th.
The Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE) seeks a cohort of current and future faculty leaders to participate in the pilot of an Institute on Antiracism and Equity. In the Institute we will build on and go beyond work done at IC and in the Ithaca community regarding diversity, inclusion, and equity. We will address racism head on and adopt a non-neutral approach in our pedagogy, curriculum, and campus culture, if not our lives. As Ibram X. Kendi states, “The opposite of ‘racist’ isn’t ‘not racist.’”
The Institute is envisioned as an interdisciplinary learning community, and a space in which to hold difficult dialogues on race. It will begin with a five-week common experience using a MOOC developed at Cornell University. Participants will then co-design learning experiences—for example, dialogues, readings, guest facilitators, and workshops—for the remainder of the spring and early fall. Finally, participants will develop action plans to bring what they have learned to their departments and schools.
The Center will provide resources and meals and cover any fees for programs like the MOOC.
Faculty members are invited to express their interest in the Institute at this link. An orientation meeting is planned for Wednesday, February 12, 9-10AM in the CFE. CFE directors are happy to answer questions and/or discuss the Institute beforehand.
