Free Headshots for the Campus Community

The Division of Marketing and Enrollment Strategy provides complimentary headshots for current faculty and staff during two photo events, once held in the fall and spring semester.

No appointments are needed; sittings are first-come, first-served. Each sitting should take no more than 5 minutes.

What to expect:

Photo files will be emailed individually to each participant after the shoot, please allow up to two weeks for delivery. By default, photos also will be included in the college’s official photo database. If you would like a headshot but do not want your image uploaded in the college database, simply let us know when you come to the sitting.

Faculty who would like to update their professional photo on the IC website should complete an IT Service Request Form. Please include a high resolution, quality image. Your request will be handled within 5-7 business days. A member of IT will let you know when your request has been completed.  If you have any questions, please contact the IT Service Desk at itservicedesk@ithaca.edu or by calling 607-274-1000.

Recommendations for what to wear:

• The backdrop will be off-white/light gray. Below are some general suggestions for professional clothing styles that tend to be the most versatile, timeless, and camera-friendly.
• When choosing clothing, think classic and professional; it's best if the clothing doesn't give away what decade it is.
• Try to stay away from anything stark white or anything with bold, distracting patterns or colors unless it’s under something, such as a jacket or sweater. Avoid clothing with tight grids or a small herringbone pattern. They can have a moiré pattern effect (rippled effect) on camera.
• Try to stay away from short sleeves; professional headshots tend to look better without bare arms.
• If you wear a suit, a dark color like navy blue or gray photographs best.
• If you wear a suit without a tie, choose a non-white shirt if possible.
• White shirts without a jacket and tie to break them up can lose detail in the color and folds.
• Choose clothing that holds its shape and doesn't bunch up when buttoned or when your sitting.
• If you wear a button-down shirt, it's best to wear a jacket or sweater of some kind to layer, which will also allow for more detail.
• You may also choose a darker color shirt or something with pockets or details, and if possible unbutton a button. This provides variety in details and depth, to allow contrast from the background.
• If you wear jewelry, minimal and non-reflective jewelry is recommended.
