Summer Job Opportunity: TA/RA with the Ithaca Young Writers Institute

  The Ithaca Young Writers Institute, a two-week residential program for high school-aged creative writers, is hiring TA/RAs! The 2020 IYWI will run July 5 to July 17, 2020. 

This year we will be offering a cross-genre workshop, a sci-fi/fantasy workshop, and a fiction workshop. DEPARTMENT Writing JOB POSTING TITLE TA/RA for Ithaca Young Writers Institute (Summer) NUMBER OF OPEN POSITIONS Multiple PAY RATE AND/OR PAY RANGE $12.70 JOB SERIES Office Operations Assistant JOB LEVEL C ANTICIPATED START DATE 7/3/20 APPLICATION DEADLINE 3/15/20 WORKING HOURS PER WEEK 37.5 ANTICIPATED WEEKLY WORK SCHEDULE Sample schedule: 9-noon, 1:30-3:30, 7-9 per weekday plus rotating RA duties. JOB DESCRIPTION Chaperone and mentor high school-age students participating in our residential summer program for creative writers; assist a faculty member as TA in morning writing workshop; teach one one-time class of your own on a topic of your choice; give a reading of your own work. Institute runs from July 5 to July 17, 2020; you will report directly to faculty director Prof. Jaime Warburton as well as working with your assigned faculty member (a professor from the Department of Writing) and the RC for the summer programs. You will be asked to complete a paid training. Room and partial board are included in addition to your pay.

Preference will be given to previous IYWI alums and sophomore and junior Writing majors, but all students of sophomore standing with a strong writing background and some experience within the Writing Department are encouraged to apply. You must be able to live on campus for the duration of the institute.

The ideal candidates will be responsible role models, excellent writers, and enthusiastic teachers with expertise in at least two of the following genres:

Poetry
Fiction
Personal Essay
Sci-Fi/Fantasy
Literary Magazines
Editing & Publishing
Scriptwriting
Songwriting
