To mark Professor Asma Barlas' retirement in Spring 2020, the Politics Department will host a symposium and reception on FRIDAY March 20th, 2020, after which Professor Barlas will give a farewell keynote lecture.

From 3-6pm, some of her former students (now alumni) will present on issues of identity, race and colonialism, and Islam that marked their trajectories at IC and beyond. At 6pm, there will be a reception with food and refreshments where alumni, students, colleagues, and other invitees are welcome to share reminisces about their time with her. Following the reception, Professor Barlas will give a keynote lecture (see attached fliers).
The Politics Department invites you to come to hear from alumni about how their work at IC has translated to their careers and to hear Professor Barlas' thoughts on The 'West,' Islam and the Mirror of Difference.
Please mark the date to help us celebrate Professor Barlas' illustrious career. We look forward to seeing you there!
Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodation, please contact politics@ithaca.edu as soon as possible.
