With the shift in Ithaca College’s classroom environments to online instruction, many accommodations may be fundamentally altered.  If your classes shift to using online exams/tests/quizzes some testing accommodations traditionally provided to students for on-campus exams may become impossible, for example isolation for testing.  Others may require extended effort on SAS’s part (readers/scribes) and some, like extended time, may require only small changes on the part of the faculty member when creating the assessment.

Instructions can be found online for creating extended test times or altered due dates through Sakai.  Please refer to the Adjustment Services Plan Letter you received from SAS for specific extended test time requirements for your students.  Another option to accommodate students with extended time is to consider universal design.  For example, an exam open all day, provided to all students, will generally meet the accommodation needs of a student with a disability without having to create a separate accommodation.

Students may still fill out our testing accommodation form to notify you they would like extra time for an exam or you may choose to discuss these accommodations and others directly with your students.  We are reaching out to students to promote discussion and exploration of what accommodations may or may not be needed due to this change to remote instruction.

If you would like more information about testing accommodations please contact the SAS testing center at tests@ithaca.edu or 607-274-1257.
