IT@IC Remotely Thinking: Developing Your Remote Environment

As you acclimate to your new 'learning, teaching and working remote environment' you may encounter unique challenges. There has been a plethora of articles written recently recommending ways to augment your remote engagement experience. We've highlighted a few tips below that will help you develop a more productive home workspace:
- Setup and Maintain a Dedicated Office Space: Regardless of the location, establish a unique space that you will utilize for learning, teaching or working remotely. This will allow you to separate your working environment from your personal life. Avoid the temptation of watching TV and other digital distractions while working and learning remotely.
- Take Breaks: Spending an extended period in front of your computer screen can become exhausting and actually decrease productivity. Although taking short breaks may seem counter-productive, research has shown that taking short breaks can actually increase your productivity.
- Try to Maintain Working Hours: Since your learning and working from home it's easy to go back and forth between the two which could potentially result in work usurping your personal life. Be intentional and maintain your work-life balance.
- Use All Your Resources: Learning, teaching and working remotely is significantly different than engaging in endeavors in person. To be effective utilize all the resources at your disposal. We've highlighted many of the available resources on the following sites:
