Contributed by Chris Holmes
The 8th annual New Voices Festival will take place via zoom (register here: https://www.ithaca.edu/academics/school-humanities-and-sciences/writing/new-voices-festival/2020-festival) on three evenings, April 22-24, at 5.30pm. Please register for free and join us for three literary evenings.
The schedule will be an abbreviated and concentrated introduction of seven tremendous writers. It will consist of three central events: The Short Short (a reading with all seven writers), Literature in the Time of Corona (a panel with all seven writers), and a Musical Performance/Collage based on the works of our writers.
Here are the event details:
The Short Short
- Wednesday, April 22, 5:30 PM
- Zoom, open invitation with suggested donation to Buffalo Street Books' GoFundMe page
- Five-minute readings by seven writers, plus short intros by our students
- Books will be available for purchase through buffalostreetbooks.com
Literature in the Time of Corona
- Thursday, April 23, 5:30 PM
- Zoom, open invitation
- A panel with all of our authors, with questions composed by the student guides, conversation moderated by Chris and Eleanor, and time for Q&A
- We envision this as a chance to reinvigorate the import of the literary arts as a means of community building during this strange and devastating time
Musical Performance/Collage
- Friday, April 24, 5:30 PM
- Zoom, open invitation
- A creative culmination featuring the words and ethos of festival authors’ works, directed by Writing major Kyra Skye, with recorded readings by other students in the class. A virtual version of one of my favorite parts of the festival!
