The Provost’s Office is pleased to announce that Dr. Cory Young, Associate Professor of Strategic Communication, has been selected to serve as the Director of the Ithaca College Honors Program, effective June 1, 2020, for a four-year term.

Dr. Young currently serves as the Assistant Director of the Honors Program and will succeed Dr. Alicia Swords, who completes her three-year appointment as Director this month.

Members of the Honors Steering Committee commended Dr. Young’s organizational and administrative strengths as well as her demonstrated commitment to the Honors Program while serving in earlier program leadership roles. In addition, they mentioned the value of her teaching contributions and advising of students within the program. Dr. Young will be supported by an engaged Honors Steering Committee, by the community of Honors faculty who regularly teach within the program, and by administrative support through the Office of the Provost.

Many thanks are due to Dr. Alicia Swords for her leadership of the program over these last years, including her work on the Honors Program Review and her successful and nuanced negotiation of several leadership transitions within and beyond the program during her tenure. We are grateful for her program advocacy, her collaboration, and her commitment to sustaining an intellectually meaningful and student-centered Honors Community.
