Student Community Gathering on Thursday

Dear IC students,

We hope you can join us tomorrow, Thursday, June 4, from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m., as we hold space for our IC students to unite as a community and acknowledge the sorrow, fear, suffering, and outrage that many of us are feeling right now as our local and national communities confront systemic racism, injustice, and violence committed against Black lives.

As President Collado said in her message to our campus community this past Saturday, we must turn our words into actions, and this event is designed to move this intention forward.

As part of this program, “Creating Space for Reflection and Action,” members of our faculty and staff whose work intersects with these issues will lead us in discussion and reflection, and provide resources and information on additional upcoming opportunities. Your voices are critical to this event—and to this moment in our nation. During our time together, we will ask you to share how you feel and what you need from us.

The link for you to register for this Zoom meeting is in the email we sent you on Wednesday evening.

We know this is short notice, and we recognize that one hour of one day can barely begin to touch on the critical work that Ithaca College must do as an institution. Our work is ongoing, and we ask that you continue to be plugged in as we create more opportunities for IC to support our student community and walk through this time with you.

In addition, we also want to make sure that you are aware of a virtual event taking place this Friday, June 5, sponsored by the Honors Program with the Tompkins County Office of Human Rights. IC faculty will join with Ithaca community leaders in a conversation focusing on “Black Bodies, Racist Rhetoric, and Violence.” We hope that you will join that conversation, if able.

In solidarity,

Rosanna Ferro
Vice President for Student Affairs and Campus Life

La Jerne Terry Cornish
Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs
