Virtual Orientation Dates 2020

The Office of New Student & Transition Programs (NSTP) and the Orientation Advisory Committee (OAC) have finalized dates for all orientation programs and are eager to share with the campus community:

Orientation Staff Training: Monday, June 22nd to Thursday, July 2nd

Family & Supporters Virtual Orientation: Friday, August 7th and Saturday, August 8th

First-Year Virtual Orientation: Monday, August 10th to Saturday, August 15th

Transfer Virtual Orientation: Monday, August 17th

The first-year virtual orientation schedule is available on our orientation website. We will publish schedules for family and transfer virtual orientation as soon as they are finalized.

Want to get involved with virtual orientation this year to welcome our new students and families? Below are some opportunities where we would love your support. Please email nstp@ithaca.edu with interest.

• Virtual “Meet & Eats” with Families and Supporters
  • These are designed in the spirit of “dine out” from year’s past. Our goal is to allow families to engage with IC faculty, staff, or alum in small groups to ask questions and get to know our community. (We imagine 1 IC community member for every 10 family members or a similar ratio.)
  • We are planning three opportunities for families to sign up:
    • Friday, August 7th 1-2p
    • Saturday, August 8th 12-1p
    • Saturday, August 8th 1-2p

• “Question Booth” staff for virtual family orientation
  • During most of Friday and Saturday of virtual family orientation, we hope to host a virtual “question booth” for families and supporters to engage one on one with IC faculty/staff with questions or simply to listen. We hope this opportunity will allow families who otherwise would catch us before/after sessions or walking campus to still have facetime with us.

• Family Social on Saturday, August 8th from 6-7p
  • Planning is underway; email Kristin Van Ormer at kvanormer@ithaca.edu to jump in!

• Virtual Faculty Panel for First-Year Students on Wednesday, August 12th at 5p
  • The aim of this panel is to allow students to get to know some of our faculty’s interest areas, advice, and perspective on being successful at IC. 

Folks all across campus support IC’s orientation program and we are so grateful to all our campus partners. Please know that it is through your flexibility, speed, grace, and partnership that we are able to create a successful orientation program for new students and families.
