Biography: Fred A. Wilcox is a college professor, writer, political activist and veterans’ advocate. He is the author of Waiting for an Army to Die: The Tragedy of Agent Orange, the book that broke the story of the use of Agent Orange (chemical warfare) in Vietnam. He also published Scorched Earth: Legacies of Chemical Warfare in Vietnam, and co-authored Fighting the Lamb’s War: Skirmishes with the American Empire (Philip Berrigan’s autobiography). His most recent book, Shamrocks and Oil Slicks: A People’s Uprising in County Mayo, Ireland, tells the story of courageous people who waged a 15 year-long struggle to keep Shell Oil from polluting and poisoning their environment.
Wilcox spent years on the streets of New York City, where he witnessed cruel landlords, ruthless police, and the struggle of poor people to survive relentless exploitation and violence. He became a radical, and remains a radical. He taught at Ithaca College from 1987-2015.
