The Ithaca College chapter of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi is pleased and proud to announce that its 2020 Fellowship nominee, Olivia Gellar, has been selected as a Phi Kappa Phi Fellow and received an award of $8,500 in support of her graduate studies.

These awards are extremely competitive and to be selected as a Fellow is a distinct honor. Olivia graduated in May 2020 with a B.A. in Culture & Communications and a minor in Spanish.  She will pursue an M.A. in Communication Studies at the University of Texas, Austin and intends to then move on to her Ph.D.

The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi currently awards fifty Fellowships of $8,500 each, six of $20,000 each, and two of $35,000 to members entering the first year of graduate or professional study. Each of the nearly 340 active Phi Kappa Phi chapters may select only one candidate from among their local applicants to compete for the Society-wide awards.

Criteria used in the selection process include undergraduate academics, leadership and service both on the campus and in the community, graduate prospects, the student's personal statement, and faculty and other recommendations.

Ithaca College has an excellent track record of fellowship awards.  Recent Ithaca College Fellowship winners are: Bridget Reynolds (Psychology, 2002) Rebecca Hammontree (Music, 2004), Dominic DiOrio (Music, 2006), Joseph Livingston (Chemistry, 2007), Kaitlyn Alcorn (Music, 2010), Kaylee Underkofler (Biochemistry, 2012), Andrew Becker (Biochemistry, 2014), Kaitlyn DeHority (Chemistry and Music, 2016), Cailin Harro (Biology, 2017), Cynthia Becker (Biology and Music, 2018), and Collette Piasecki-Masters (Biology, 2019).

We are delighted to add Olivia Gellar to our chapter's list of recipients featured on the chapter's website and the PKP display case near Textor 102!

Founded in 1897 at the University of Maine, Phi Kappa Phi is the nation's oldest, largest, and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. Its chapters are on nearly 340 campuses in the United States, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines. Each year, approximately 30,000 members are initiated.
