Marella Feltrin-Morris (Modern Languages and Literatures) has published the first English translation of “I nostri ricordi” ("Our Memories," 1912), a short story by the Italian writer Luigi Pirandello (1867-1936) and winner of the 1934 Nobel Prize for Literature, in Five Points 20.1 (2020): 41-47.
Returning to his hometown after many years, the narrator realizes his own memories differ dramatically from those of his old acquaintances. In particular, heis told his best friend used to be a certain Doctor Palumba, who still speaks fondly of him, but of whom the narrator has no recollection. The narrator decides to visit Palumba under a false name in order to find out if he will be recognized.
