Dr. Steven A. Seidman, Professor Emeritus in the Department of Strategic Communication, has published the lead chapter in a book released by Routledge Press, titled The Political Portrait: Leadership, Image and Power, edited by Luciano Cheles and Alessandro Giacone.
The chapter, “Portraits of United States Presidents and National Candidates Past and Present,” examines portraits of U.S. presidents and presidential candidates, particularly since 1980. It focuses on how political leaders (from George Washington to Donald Trump) were depicted in both positive and negative ways in a variety of media, including painting, sculpture, textile, photography, poster, video, television, film, and cartoon, to produce propaganda.
