Move-in to the residence halls will look very different this year, but we still need your help to make this as smooth of a transition as possible for our new and returning students.

Dear Ithaca College Community,

The Return to Campus Task Force has been hard at work to ensure that we prioritize the health and safety of our entire community as we plan to welcome students back to Ithaca. Typically, we organize a Move-In Crew every year to meet students and families at their vehicles, unpack their belongings, and deliver them to their rooms. However, this year students are only allowed to bring two suitcases and one backpack, and except for accommodations, we will not be assisting them as they move into their rooms.

Nevertheless, we still need your help! Now, more than ever, our success relies on our entire community coming together as a team. Move-In Crew volunteers will have a different task this year. As you may know, when we closed the residence halls back in March, staff packed and stored any items that students wanted to keep on campus for when they returned in the fall. In addition, students will be allowed to ship items to campus prior to their arrival if they need items that can’t fit in their suitcases and backpack. Volunteers will be asked to assemble over three days in early September to deliver the previously stored and additionally shipped items to the residence halls.

This is a new structure for this program, and we are still working out many details. At this time, we ask that you complete the registration form below by Friday, August 21, to indicate your availability for September 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. We are still figuring out the logistics of this Move-In Crew. Generally, volunteers will sign up for two-hour shifts and will be assigned in small groups to specific residence halls across campus. Staff from General Services and Facilities will deliver the labeled packages to the building during your shift, and volunteers will then deliver these packages to rooms within that residence hall. The group of volunteers will deliver the items for that building, for that day, and that will complete your shift. The more volunteers who sign up, the fewer shifts each volunteer will need to take.

Health and Safety Precautions:

Please note, in order to volunteer, you must be tested in one of the college-sponsored mass testing dates at the A&E Center during August, and be cleared to access campus (negative test result), prior to your scheduled shift(s). More information will be shared shortly on how to register for a testing date/time. On the day of your scheduled shift(s) you must complete the electronic daily health screening before coming to campus. Face coverings are required for all volunteers for the duration of your shift(s), and 6 feet of physical distance should be maintained during your shift(s) whenever possible. There may be a situation where less than 6 feet of physical distance may have to occur for a short period of time if a box/package is too heavy or large for one person to carry on their own, and two people must work to carry it together. If this case were to arise, the two people carrying that item should avoid talking. Hand sanitizer will be available in all the residence halls and volunteers are encouraged to regularly sanitize their hands as needed. We also request that you bring your own water bottles.
