We wanted to provide you with some important updates to student employment for the fall 2020 semester.
In recognition that there may be a significant number of students with financial need during this difficult time, and in order to help support and retain our students, we are asking supervisors that for the first couple weeks of the semester (September 8 – 22), first consideration be given to students who have been awarded Federal Work Study as they look to fill their student positions.
The process of submitting a recruitment requisition to fill a student position using the Recruiting Cloud remains the same (Recruitment of Student Employees). Students will be asked to indicate on their application if they have been awarded Federal Work Study, and supervisors should review that answer to determine which students should be considered first. The Office of Human Resources will verify the award prior to an offer of employment being extended. Please note that departmental funding still needs to be budgeted for earnings of students who qualify for FWS.
We anticipate the majority of student positions will be performed remotely, however, departments deemed essential to working on campus, (i.e. Facilities, Dining, Public Safety), may have the need for on-campus student employees. Supervisors should work with their Dean or VP to ensure they have approval for on-campus student employees prior to submitting a recruitment requisition, and the requisition should note that it is an on-campus position. Those students would be required to participate in the regular COVID-19 testing and complete the daily health screening each day they come to campus, prior to their arrival.
We will send further communication if there are additional changes as a result of a campus operating status change and/or as we know more about how we will be proceeding with the spring semester. Please contact Student Employment at studentemployment@ithaca.edu if you have any questions.
