"Meditation is like a gym in which you develop the powerful mental muscles of calm and insight" Ajahn Brahm
Course Description:
Meditation is a practice to cultivate inner stillness, through which, a sense of deep relaxation, awareness, insight and wisdom can develop. Meditation practice has been associated with many health benefits such as reduction of stress, depression, and anxiety, as well as improvements in cardiovascular and digestive health. Beyond that, meditation is an effective tool for helping to navigate the ups and downs of daily life with an enhanced sense of balance, inner peace and wellbeing. Meditation can be practiced by anyone regardless of age, physical ability, location or spiritual or religious beliefs and background. In this course, we will explore various techniques of sitting and walking meditation to cultivate inner capacity for grounded awareness of thought patterns, sensory experience and presence in every day life. Class time will be spent learning and practicing techniques, as well as some small group discussion. 1 credit
