Faculty & Staff Web Profiles Migrating to Drupal

The IC Web Team is in the final phases of migrating legacy web content from our old Web Profile Manager (WPM) system to our new Drupal platform. We're excited to share that our next phase of this project will focus on migrating all of the approximately 1,340 faculty and staff profile pages that still live on the old system.

This project began in 2018 with the launch of a new Ithaca.edu website, and over the past two years we've been carefully migrating sites for one office and department at a time. As the end of 2020 approaches, we risk losing our ability to keep the old WPM servers updated, so our goal is to have zero web content coming from WPM by January 1.

Because the majority of faculty profiles generally have a lot more content than staff profiles, we're starting this month with bringing faculty profiles to Drupal.

Our Timeline
Earlier this week we began working with a small group of faculty and staff beta testers to help us refine our profile migration process. Over the next two weeks, we are leading this small group of testers through every step of activating their Drupal profiles, and we'll be getting feedback from them on their experience to ensure this process is simple and fast for everyone.

Assuming the beta test is successful, we'll be reaching out in November to all schools and departments to coordinate migration of all remaining profiles in closely timed waves. We will also be coordinating with partners in the Provost's Office, Human Resources, the Faculty Council, and Staff Council to keep all stakeholders informed.

What Does This Mean For You?
Hopefully nothing. The vast majority of faculty and staff profiles don't have a lot in them and won't be affected by this process. For those who have built out their profiles more, we will be coaching people through their options.

We are committed to making the web migration effort as simple and low impact as possible for everyone. That starts and ends with effective communications, and so we'll be reaching out again soon with an update on our progress. In the meantime, if you have any questions or concerns about web migration, you can contact the IC Web Team anytime through our feedback form.

We're always happy to hear from you.
