The Student Governance Council would like to acknowledge the Ithacan article published on October 8th, regarding the cut to faculty positions due to low enrollment.
We cannot begin to understand what faculty members may be going through in response to this news, but our hearts and support are with them. However, we must also recognize the staff members who have also been impacted by department reductions. Our community, and the world, continues to be severely impacted by COVID-19. These cuts to our faculty and staff are just another example of the virus’ egregious impact.
This decision affects our entire Ithaca College family; we thrive because of all the faculty, staff, and students that interact and collaborate with each other on a daily basis. We do not know the exact implications of this decision, but we must think about the potential impact this will have on academic programs and student plans.
Our faculty and staff play a fundamental and critical role in what makes Ithaca College the incredible community that it is. We cherish the relationships and experiences we have with our faculty and staff.
As students, we will maintain their legacy through a commitment to our education and our curiosity to learn. However, we stand with our faculty and staff and truly wish we were not in this situation.
Our hearts are broken.
