Guest Speaker Dr. Daniel Rabinovich of UNC Charlotte will be joining us on Tuesday, October 27th at 12:10 pm will present:
Synthesis of Silver Compounds with Anticancer Properties
N-heterocyclic thione (NHT) and selone (NHSe) donor groups have an extensive coordination chemistry, both as simple monodentate ligands and as versatile building blocks in a variety of chelating agents. This presentation will outline recent advances in the synthesis and characterization of NHT and NHSe complexes of silver(I) that exhibit anticancer activity.
The World of Chemistry on Postage Stamps
Postage stamps constitute a simple yet effective means of communication, often used by governments or postal authorities to inform the general public on a variety of topics, including history, geography, literature and the arts. A surprisingly large number of stamps have also been issued to commemorate scientific discoveries or to honor well-known scientists. This presentation will feature postage stamps pertaining to the history of chemistry, the discovery of elements, chemical structures and formulas, laboratory equipment, biochemistry, and various aspects of the chemical industry.
Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Paula Larsen at plarsen@ithaca.edu . We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible.
