Introduction to Intellectual Property (IP) and Careers in IP: Patents can be fun

The modern economy is driven by innovation. A subset of innovation is based on technical inventing. Inventions, particularly patentable inventions, form the Intellectual Property (IP) core which is essential to the operation of many successful enterprises. To be successful in the innovation-based economy, engineers and scientists should have a good understanding of what is an invention, how inventions are protected, and perhaps what are the employment opportunities in the IP field.

In this presentation we will briefly discuss what the Intellectual Property is, the value of a patent, what is patentable, what is obvious, and what is surprising and unexpected. We will also discuss what could a job of a Patent Professional with the background in Chemistry entail, skills & experience required, career paths, types of employment opportunities, etc.
