Dialects for the Stage -Winter Session- Open to All!

Kathleen Mulligan (Professor, Ithaca College Department of Theatre Arts) will be offering the course Dialects for the Stage (THEA 33600) during Winter Session 2 (January 4-15) at Ithaca College. The course will be fully remote and primarily synchronous, with additional asynchronous time spent listening to recorded dialect samples and instructional material.
Course objectives:
- To explore specific dialects and accents and their relation to characterization through identification of vowel and consonant substitutions, musicality, and application to various dramatic texts.
- To develop the necessary skills for researching and mastering dialects and accents.
- The winter session is open to all, and experience in the International Phonetic Alphabet is not required.
- The content of the course will be condensed and accelerated, but the learning outcomes of the Ithaca College course Dialects of the Stage will remain the same. All are welcome!
- The winter roster will be viewable November 1st. Winter session registration opens November 9th.
