Help us to welcome new and returning students as a move-in support volunteer!

The Public Health Task Force and the College Move-in Committee have been hard at work to ensure that we prioritize the health and safety of our entire community as we plan to welcome students back to Ithaca for the spring 2021 semester. In the past, we organize in the fall to greet students and their families, and help students move into the residence halls, but the bulk of students will be moving in this spring. There are unique situations requiring increased support to ensure safety and efficiency during this process.

We need your help! Now, more than ever, our success relies on our entire community coming together as a team. As you may know, we had very limited students on campus this fall semester, so most of our students will be moving to campus in the spring. Due to testing and quarantine requirements, we will need a strategically coordinated move-in process with the help of several volunteers in order to manage all the moving parts. Volunteers will be requested to support this initiative over a period of several weeks from early January until early February. Tasks might include; working at the storage rooms to temporarily secure students’ belongings while they are in quarantine, helping to deliver currently stored or pre-shipped belongings, supporting the residential life team at check-in, staffing hotel locations as students arrive for temporary quarantine until they depart after receiving their test results, and coordinating transportation to and from hotels.

This is a new structure for this program, and we are still working out many details. At this time, we ask that you complete the registration form below by Friday, December 11, to indicate your interest in being a volunteer. We are still figuring out the logistics of this Move-In Support team. Once we have a list of volunteers, we will send a link to select and sign-up for shifts. We are appreciative for any amount of time you are able to commit to this process. The more volunteers who sign up, the fewer shifts each volunteer will need to take.

Health and Safety Precautions:

Please note, in order to volunteer, you must be tested for COVID-19 through the college-sponsored mass testing opportunities at the A&E Center, and be cleared to access campus (negative test result), prior to your scheduled shift(s). More information will be shared on how to register for a testing date/time, and when you must test in order to participate. On the day of your scheduled shift(s) you must complete the electronic daily health screening before coming to campus. Face coverings are required for all volunteers for the duration of your shift(s), and 6-feet of physical distance should be maintained during your shift(s) whenever possible.

We must think creatively during these times and come together as a team to ensure a successful semester. We greatly appreciate your support and willingness to volunteer. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Samantha Elebiary at selebiary@ithaca.edu.
