Students from the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance completed a 6-week Interprofessional Collaboration Experience in which they addressed real world health issues. Students from HPPE, OT, PT, RLS, and SLPA worked in teams to create solutions to respond to specific health needs within our community.
Tompkins County Public Health Director, Frank Kruppa, attended a virtual celebration with the faculty and students involved in the experience. Mr. Kruppa emphasized the importance of cross-disciplinary work to address real health issues in our local community.
The winning team consisted of: Kyle Davis (PT), Emily Fleming (OT), Hannah Fuchs (SLPA), Catherine Larkin (PT), Keanna Morales (OT), and Maggie Seitz (PT). The team addressed LGBTQ+ Youth and proposed the creation of an app that provides educational resources, identifies LGBTQ+ friendly and competent healthcare providers, and reinforces a sense of community within LGBTQ+ members in the area.
The second-place teams included:
Shoshana Cohen (RLS), Richard Evans (PT), Kristin Inthirakot (OT), Caroline McKeighan (PT), Emily Shiffman (OT), and Britney Swarthout (PT), who addressed COVID-19.
Luke Charles (PT), Anna Destino (OT), Natalie Dock (SLPA), Brianna Johnston (PT), Liam Maginnis (OT), and Alexa Prebola (PT), who addressed People Living Below the Poverty Line.
