IT Will Be Preparing Campus Office Computers for Use This Spring

11/23/20

Contributed by Drew Hammond

In preparation for the return to campus in the spring, Information Technology staff are planning to visit offices across campus to power up computers. Since many machines have been unused since last March, powering them up now will apply all of the patches and updates to the Operating System and Microsoft products that have been released since then.

The updates will have no impact on the existing data on the computer. The technician will power up the computer and login, give the computer the time needed to perform the updates, then return later to power down the computer. If the computer is in use when we arrive we will not make any changes to it.

By being proactive with these updates, your computer will be ready to use when you return to campus, rather than there being a delay and inconvenience due to the possibly lengthy update process.

These visits will occur starting November 30th and go throughout the month of December. If you have any questions or concerns please give our Service Desk a call (607) 274-1000.
