This year, the Ithaca College Composition Department is pleased to be hosting the annual National Student Electronic Music Event (NSEME), one of the most important events for students working in electronic music. This is an entirely student driven conference, usually reserved for doctoral students, but a small group of Ithaca College Senior Composition students will be organizing an entirely remote Conference to take place in April 2021.

Each year, NSEME is hosted by students from a different State. Most recently, this conference was hosted by the University of North Texas (2018), the University of Virginia (2019) and the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign (2020).

Ithaca’s contribution to the NSEME narrative will be a topical exploration of the idea of space, and the artistic interpretations of it. The current pandemic has led to a worldwide focus on isolation and distance from people, places, and experiences, and subsequently caused a wave of artistic expression anchored in these ideas. The goal is to harness these common themes and display the unique ways musicians are expressing these feelings through installations and performances.

NSEME 2021 will be an online conference, taking place from April 23-24. Congratulations to the Composition Students for this important national recognition!
