Faculty Web Profile Migration to Begin January 5

Following a successful migration of web profiles for all college staff this month, the IC Web Team is moving ahead with plans to migrate remaining web profiles for all faculty as previously outlined in our Intercom post from October 8.

Faculty Profile Migration Timeline
In order to avoid the potential disruption of making such an abrupt change for all faculty at once, we hope to minimize the impact by processing migrations in short waves, one school at a time every few days, over three weeks from Jan. 5 - 22. While the technical migration process may only take 24-48 hours, we've added extra room in this schedule to also provide at least one virtual training workshop for faculty in each school.

We are coordinating exact dates with the dean’s office of each school and will notify faculty in each, but the schedule is designed specifically to complete all migrations before the start of the Spring 2021 semester.

What Faculty Should Know
Migration is largely automated and managed by our web team. Existing content in current faculty profiles will be cloned, migrated, and automatically published on the new site. All faculty will receive notice at least 24 hours before their profile is cloned, and then a confirmation after migration with detailed instructions on how to access and edit their profiles in Drupal.

Unfortunately there are some kinds of content that cannot be automatically migrated to the new platform, including photos or attached files like PDFs. This means that many faculty will be required to manually update their profiles once after migration to replace those items. But we anticipate most faculty will actually welcome these tasks (uploading a new photo or adding a CV) in order to take advantage of the improved design and accessibility features that their old profiles were missing.

We encourage you to read our latest blog post for more details about the new web profiles.

What’s Next
As faculty profile migrations are completed, we’ll be sharing more information about how to access your own profile and make updates. We’ll also be offering a limited series of virtual mini-workshops to introduce you to the features and options of editing your own profile pages — look for an announcement soon with a schedule for those sessions and instructions on how to RSVP.

In the meantime, if you have any questions or concerns about web migration, you can contact the IC Web Team anytime through our feedback form. Have a safe and peaceful holiday break.
