Please click "Read More" to find out about the Instrumental Ensembles available for non-music majors.
Hello to all student instrumentalists enrolled in classes at IC this coming semester. My name is Grant Cooper and I am serving as interim director of Instrumental Ensembles for the current academic year. We would like to encourage you to exercise your musical talents by participating in a music ensemble; there are several options available to you as a non-music major. While Covid has severely restricted the number of students who can be safely grouped together in a music-ensemble, we can offer, on a space-available basis, membership in one of our School of Music ensembles - orchestras and bands – to highly qualified students, by audition. Details of the audition materials and process can be found on Sakai. These ensembles rehearse between 4 and 5 hours per week and strive for the highest possible musical standards.
To audition for these ensembles, please follow the link below:
For a slightly more relaxed musical experience, we offer two all-campus ensembles that require no audition and meet early evenings for just under two hours per week. Sinfonietta is for string players and Campus Band for wind, brass, and percussion performers. They are each conducted by a graduate student who is a conducting major at IC.
Here is a short message from each conductor.
For Sinfonietta:
Hello everyone! Welcome to the spring semester, when we can finally see each other face to face. For you who play string instruments, you are more than welcome to participate in Sinfonietta, a joyful and open orchestra for non-majors, with good insights about music beyond simply playing the notes. The orchestra rehearses every Wednesday at 6 pm to 7:50 am. A reminder: No audition is needed! My name is Cibelle Donza and I am a native of Brazil. If you have any questions please reach out to me at cdonza@ithaca.edu
And for Campus Band:
Hello IC students! Campus Band is looking for all wind, brass, and percussion players to join us this coming semester on Monday evenings (6pm-7:50pm). After such a long period of social isolation I am extremely excited to be able to make music in person together! We will be running rehearsals in creative and interesting ways to ensure that we are gathering and playing instruments in the safest manner possible. If you have any questions, please reach out to me at lmenchaca@ithaca.edu
