We have officially crossed the midway point in the spring semester IC! The first half of the semester has seen our Bomber Bubble do a great job of adhering to COVID-19 protocols and mitigating the impact of the virus in our community. Check out our latest column and see how we can keep our positive momentum going to finish the semester strong.

Let’s Not Test Our Luck This St. Patrick’s Day

Spring is finally making its arrival on South Hill with warmer weather and longer days! As we enter the third week of March, we also close in on the annual celebration of St. Patrick’s Day on Wednesday and our third Spring Wellness Day on Thursday. These two days in succession certainly invites temptation for attending large social events. Before you do, please stop and think about the impact of participating in a St. Patrick's Day celebration on the benefits of your Wellness Day - a day off which is intended to enable you to relax and recharge before continuing with your semester. Think too about whether a St. Patrick's  Day celebration is worth testing your luck - one night of fun could mean 10 days of isolation or quarantine for you and your close contacts.

COVID-19 is still a threat! Let's not let one night jeopardize the hard work we have put in to get this point in the semester. Remember to practice your COVID-19 cues.

If you do plan to see friends and are committed to keeping your gatherings small and with only limited contacts within your Bomber Bubble – kudos to you! Remember that alcohol can impair your judgement and, during COVID, your ability to maintain those public health measures that we know work. Wear your face coverings and be sure to maintain your six feet of distance from others. These practices – along with daily screening and frequent surveillance testing – continue to be our best tools to limit the impact of the virus.

We’ve worked so hard to get to this point, let’s not take our eyes off the prize now. Let’s stay #ICinThisTogether and keep COVID-19 halted in its tracks!
