ITAL 20100 or ITAL 31000—Experiencing Italy (Virtually!): Remarkable Cities

A “virtual tour” of key cities from a multidisciplinary perspective. Explore the history of each city and the art, architecture, and literature that characterize it, and learn the cultural differences of each area, including variations in traditions, language, cuisine, and music. The 210 level is for students with no, or limited, Italian (none is required); ICC designations for Creative Arts and Humanities. The 310 level is for students with ITAL 202 or above who wish to continue to develop their language skills; includes practice in writing, reading and discussion in Italian. Class taught in English.

ITAL 24500 or ITAL 34500—Italian Culture: A Culinary Journey

Introduction to Italian culture through the lens of its rich culinary tradition. Explore a wide range of culinary-related materials, such as films, recipes, restaurant reviews, cooking shows, websites, and songs, as well as literary texts. Topics include territory, regional differences, influences of recent immigration patterns, etiquette, and changing lifestyles. The 245 level is for students with no, or limited, Italian (none is required); The 345 level is for students with ITAL 202 or above who wish to continue to develop their language skills; includes practice in writing, reading and discussion in Italian. Class taught in English.
