Ithacan Named Best College Newspaper in New York State for 2020

 The Ithacan has once again been named the Best College Newspaper in New York State by the New York Press Association in its annual Better College Newspaper competition. This is the 19th time the paper has been named best in the state in the past 22 years.

The judges said, “The Ithacan is full of pertinent and relevant news for its community. Story choice, graphics, layout, and writing were consistently of a high quality.”

 The award was for work produced during calendar year 2020 (Sophia Adamucci ’20, spring semester editor-in-chief; Madison Fernandez ’21, fall semester editor-in-chief).

In addition to being named Best College, the paper and its writers won the following awards:

• Second Place, Editorial Writing
• Second Place, Design
• Second Place, Best Web Site

• Mikayla Rovenolt ’22, Second Place for Photography
• Caitlin Holtzman, Second Place, News Story, for “Fall 2020 Enrollment Drops as Hundreds Take Leaves and Defer,” Oct 1, 2020
• Ashley Stalnecker ’21, Third Place, News Story, for “Music Students Struggle with Demanding Culture and Courses,” Feb. 6, 2020
