Dear Ithaca College Community,

It is with great sadness that we write to inform the campus community of the sudden passing on Saturday of sophomore Thomas Fine, an architectural studies major in our School of Humanities and Sciences. A student-athlete, Thomas competed as a pole vaulter on the college’s men’s track and field team. He was from Hauppauge, New York, and a graduate of Hauppauge High School.

On behalf of the entire IC community, we offer our deepest sympathies to Thomas’s family, friends, professors, classmates, teammates, and all who are affected by his passing. Please keep Thomas and his loved ones in your thoughts and prayers. At a time when we are celebrating the end of the academic year, we ask that you also please continue to look out for one another.

Support services for students are always available through the Ithaca College Center for Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) by calling 607-274-3136 and following the prompts to reach the after-hours, on-call counselor. Students needing immediate assistance should contact the Office of Public Safety at 607-274-3333 or the on-duty residential life staff. Faculty and staff can access the counseling services of the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) by calling 1-800-327-2255. The Office of Religious and Spiritual Life has a website dedicated to grief resources, and can also provide support by contacting Hierald Osorto, director for religious and spiritual life, at hosorto@ithaca.edu

Information on any memorial services will be shared with the campus community when it becomes available. In the meantime, please take care of yourselves and each other, and keep Thomas and his family close to your heart as we mourn this terrible loss.

With deepest sympathy,

Shirley M. Collado
President
