Honorable Mention Photography: “Middle Earth”

by Tim Szlachetka '05

Tim Szlachetka ’05 says photography is something he has recently gotten more interested in. “I took a few classes when I was in high school,” he says, “but never really pursued it until about two years ago.” After graduating from Ithaca, Tim spent a few years living in San Diego and more recently moved to the east side of Maui, in the Hawaiian islands, where he is enjoying all the photo opportunities.

“If I woke up and found myself in Polipoli, there is no way that I could believe that I was still on Maui,” says Tim. “At an elevation of approximately 6,000 feet, Polipoli Spring State Reserve is a park with trails winding through a forest of towering redwood trees. The park is also in the fog belt, which can create a somewhat mystical feeling while walking on the steep cliff-side trails.”
