Admission: Simplifying the College Search

Ithaca College helps high school students make the right higher-ed choice.

The College has joined a nationwide online resource for students and their families who are researching colleges. The University and College Accountability Network (U-CAN) offers free access to information about hundreds of private colleges and universities across the country.

Junior and senior high school students have to sift through so much information, it can become overwhelming. U-CAN’s format makes it easy to compare institutions. The information covers topics of greatest interest such as admissions, academics, student demographics, graduation rates, most common fields of study, accreditation, faculty information, class size, tuition and fees trends, financial aid, campus housing, student life, and campus safety.

U-CAN was developed by the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU), of which Ithaca is a charter member. It is meant as an alternative to guidebooks that purport to rank institutions based on surveys, reputation, and other selective criteria. U-CAN offers objective and measurable data that are supplemented by targeted hyperlinks to an institution’s website, so college seekers can find the school that will be the best fit for them.
