Mailbox: Proud of ICView’s Policy
I am responding to Scott Long’s letter, which asked that you change the “Pairings” section to one recognizing only heterosexual marriages.
When I first realized that ICView was including commitment ceremonies between homosexual couples [Editor’s note: I can’t take credit; I arrived in 1997, and this practice began in the early 1990s, under the editorship of Marina Bandidos Todd], I was very excited and proud to be an alumna of a college that recognized that not all marriages these days are between a man and a woman. As someone who has many homosexual friends in long-term, committed, loving relationships that by every right should be counted as marriages, I was pleased to see my alma mater recognizing them.
I believe that marriage should be between two people who love each other and are committed to being with each other for life. Whether they be male and female, male and male, or female and female, as long as the long-term commitment is there, what does it matter? We’ve all seen “traditional” marriages fail from lack of commitment on the part of one of the partners — is this what marriage is truly?
So, ICView, keep up the good work, and keep including all “Pairings” in the pages of the magazine.
