Craig Evans '84: Passing the Baton
Passing the Baton
Craig Evans ’84 is the associate vice president for institutional advancement at IC. Those who work with him know how dedicated he is to the College, but even so his colleagues were surprised when he donated $10,000 of his own money to the Faculty/Staff Endowed Scholarship.
When asked what triggered this generosity, Craig says, “I know first-hand the value of an Ithaca College education. Not a day has gone by in my professional career—as a teacher, a school administrator, and now an Ithaca College employee—that I have not reflected on what good training and experience I had here as a student. In fact, it was my student experience more than 20 years ago, and my experience as an alumnus ever since, that helped me decide to come back to join the staff.”
Craig joined the institutional advancement staff in the middle of a varied career as a musician, conductor, and educator. His most recent education appointments were as a school principal and assistant to the superintendent of schools in the Ithaca City School District.
“When I heard that the Faculty/Staff Campaign Committee had decided to create a scholarship as its campaign goal, I knew this was the perfect vehicle for me to publicly demonstrate my commitment to the institution that has done so much for me as a student, alumnus, and employee,” he says. “As a student, I received financial aid in the form of scholarships, and I am glad to be able to help future students obtain the training and experience that I did.”
