CSCRE's fall 2007 discussion series, The Prison Machine: Race, Torture, & the State, explores the incarceration of people of color with a focus on intersections of race, torture, and the state. The series starts off with Joy A. James, a professor of Africana studies at Williams College who holds a Ph.D. in political philosophy from Fordham University and a post doctorate degree in religious ethics from the Union Theological Seminary at Columbia University.
