Want to Send E-mail Using New E-Mail System?

If you have not already done so, all e-mail client users must change
the outgoing (SMTP) server settings in order to send e-mail messages on
the new system. If you have not already changed your settings, the
instructions are below. Webmail users do not need to make any changes.
Thunderbird
- Open the Tools menu
- Select Account Settings
- Select Outgoing
Server (SMTP)
- In the list on the right, select the outgoing server
(icmail.ithaca.edu)
- Click the Edit button
- Under Security and Authentication, put a check in the checkbox next
to "Use name and password" - Enter your e-mail username in the "User
Name" field (e.g., John Doe would enter jdoe)
- For the "Use secure
connection" setting, select the TLS radio button
- At the top of the
window, verify that the Port is set to 25 (if off campus or using a
laptop, manually change the port to 587)
- Click OK to save your new
SMTP (outgoing) server settings
- Click OK again to close the Account Settings window
Mac OS 10.4 (Tiger)
- Open the Mail menu
- Choose Preferences...
- Click the Accounts
button along the top row of the dialog box
- Make sure Account
Information is selected
- Click on the Server Settings button (bottom
right)
- Change the Server port setting to 25 (if off campus or using
a laptop, change the port to 587)
- Set Authentication to Password
- Enter your username, but do not enter your password
- Click OK
- Close the Preferences dialog box
Click Save to save
your changes
Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard)
- Open the Mail menu
- Choose Preferences...
- Click the Accounts
button along the top row of the dialog box
- Make sure Account
Information is selected
- Click on the drop-down menu next to Outgoing
Mail Server (SMTP)
- Choose Edit Server List
- Make sure the outgoing mail server icmail.ithaca.edu is selected
- Click Advanced
- Change the Server port setting to 25 (if off campus or using a
laptop, change the port to 587)
- Make sure the Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) checkbox is checked
- Set Authentication to Password
- Enter your username, but do not enter your password
- Click OK
- Close the Preferences dialog box
- Click Save to
save your changes
Remember ITS will never ask for your password or any other personal
information.
