On Tuesday, October 6th at 4:00PM in the Center for Natural Sciences Room 112, Dr. Sandra Steingraber will discuss "Journalism in an Age of Ecological Crisis: Notes from a Environmental Writer and Reporter."
Sandra Steingraber, ecologist and noted author of Living Downstream: An Ecologist Looks at Cancer and the Environment, is currently serving as a Scholar in Residence at Ithaca College. Dr. Steingraber has worked as a field biologist and a science reporter for the Detroit Free Press, and she is currently an environmental columnist for Orion magazine. She has seen environmental reportage from both sides: as interviewer and interviewee. Her talk will explore the manner in which the media report environmental stories – and the troubling ways in which environmental issues are too often disconnected from journalism. She will also discuss her experience working with a film crew in creating the documentary film version of Living Downstream, to be released this spring.
