Sustainability Café on Tuesday, October 6 examines Environmental JournalismContributed by Marian Brown on 09/30/09
Sandra Steingraber, ecologist and noted author of Living Downstream: An Ecologist Looks at Cancer and the Environment, is currently serving as a Scholar in Residence at Ithaca College. Dr. Steingraber has worked as a field biologist and a science reporter for the Detroit Free Press, and she is currently an environmental columnist for Orion magazine. She has seen environmental reportage from both sides: as interviewer and interviewee. Her talk will explore the manner in which the media report environmental stories – and the troubling ways in which environmental issues are too often disconnected from journalism. She will also discuss her experience working with a film crew in creating the documentary film version of Living Downstream, to be released this spring. Read Steingraber's latest column in Orion magazine "Teachable edibles" -- seasonal, organic, and/or local foods -- served at the fall 2009 Sustainability Café series are being supported by Ithaca College Dining Services.
