This is an introductory course into land navigation and orienteering techniques. Students will learn the basic skills of being able to read and understand map symbols, determine location on a map, point plotting, azimuths’, and the use of a compass on orienteering courses. Students will also learn more advanced techniques to include resection, intersection, dead reckoning, pace count, and day/night navigation. A portion of the course will also cover basic first aid and survival techniques in the case of a worst possible scenario. There is a $50 fee for this course to cover the cost of equipment maintenance.
