French major Lauren Way ('11), and French minors Rachel Berger (x'10) and Maddie Smith-Spanier ('11) have been selected by the French government's Teaching Assistant Program to teach English and American culture in France next year.French major Lauren Way ('11), and French minors Rachel Berger (x'10) and Maddie Smith-Spanier ('11) have been selected by the French government's Teaching Assistant Program to teach English and American culture in France next year.
Each year, the French Ministry of Education selects a number of American university students to teach in France's middle and high schools in order to give French students more direct access to the English language and American culture. Through a highly competitive application process, program candidates are asked to demonstrate overall academic achievement, a high level of proficiency in the French language, a rich understanding of French culture, and great potential to serve as engaging cultural ambassadors. Lauren, Rachel, and Maddie have been assigned to teach in the Academies of Bordeaux, Nancy/Metz, and Versailles, respectively.
