As many of you know, Leslie Schettino, Director of Ithaca College’s Office of Student Disability Services, has been in a long and courageous struggle with life-threatening illness. I am deeply saddened by the news I share with you today, that Leslie passed away yesterday evening.
All who had the pleasure of knowing and working with Leslie know the depth of her commitment to our students, and her willingness to advocate for those with special needs. Leslie began her work with disabilities services at Ithaca in 1994, and served as Director starting in September of 1999. Her leadership in this area has made a great difference for hundreds of our students over the years, and her presence on our campus will be greatly missed.
Human Resources will be making arrangements for EAP availability to support college employees affected by this sad news; counseling and support for students will also be available through the Center for Counseling and Wellness. Muller Chapel is open to anyone wishing to have a quiet space for reflection during this time, and anyone wishing to talk with a Chaplain is welcome to call the Chapel for assistance.
Leslie leaves behind many loving friends and family members, including her husband Joe Schettino, son Christopher and daughter Maria. Services will be held Saturday, April 14, in Dryden at the Perkins Funeral Home, 55 West Main Street, with visiting hours from 12:00 to 2:00 and a remembrance ceremony at 2:00.
On behalf of the entire College, I offer my sincere condolences to Leslie’s colleagues, family and friends.
